Government Emergency Alert Test 7th September 2025
The UK Government will be testing its new Emergency Alerts system on:
Sunday 7 September at 3pm
When this happens, all compatible mobile phones and tablets will make a loud siren noise and vibrate for around 10 seconds – even if the device is on silent. You do not need mobile data or Wi-Fi to receive the alert. The Emergency Alerts system is designed to warn people about life-threatening events, such as severe weather.

How to opt out of alerts
If you do not want to receive the test alert, you can switch off emergency alerts in your phones settings. Step by step instructions are available here: https://www.gov.uk/alerts/opting-out
-
Who will not receive the alert?
You will not receive the alert if your device is:
- Turned off
- Connected only to a 2G or 3G network
- Wi-Fi only (not connected to a mobile network)
- Not compatible with the alert system
